AD-WAN wolfSSL Milestone

The milestone

A defining achievement for AD-WAN

USDN is proud to highlight a defining achievement for its flagship product, AD-WAN, which USDN identifies as the first SD-WAN offering to combine wolfGuard, a WireGuard-based connectivity solution, with FIPS 140-3 validated cryptography.

Our exclusive arrangement with wolfSSL Inc. brings together USDN’s enterprise networking innovation and wolfSSL’s expertise in cryptographic security. Together, these capabilities support secure data transportation for business networks, including regulated industries and organizations handling sensitive information.

The combination

Why this combination matters

WireGuard-based connectivity

A streamlined approach to secure connections, with a compact design and efficient encrypted communication.

VPP acceleration

Supports AD-WAN’s line-speed data transport, helping address demanding enterprise performance requirements.

wolfCrypt cryptography

Provides FIPS 140-3 validated cryptography, giving customers independently tested security they can examine during procurement and technical reviews.

AD-WAN integration

Brings these capabilities together in an enterprise SD-WAN solution designed for regulated industries and organizations handling sensitive information.

Our cryptography partner

The industry significance of wolfSSL

wolfSSLEmbedded TLS Library for Applications, Devices, and the Cloud

wolfSSL provides the underlying security building blocks that manufacturers and developers integrate into connected devices, applications, and infrastructure. Designed for efficiency and portability, its libraries serve environments where computing resources, performance, and security all matter. Semiconductor manufacturer Infineon recognizes wolfSSL as a preferred embedded software partner.

wolfSSL’s published case studies include Cinterion, for secure cellular machine-to-machine communications; INSTEON, for encryption in connected-home hubs; Sensity Systems, for securing light sensory networks; and Saficard, for protecting electronic healthcare billing communications.

These examples demonstrate wolfSSL’s reach across connected infrastructure, industrial communications, and sensitive data applications, experience that adds depth and credibility to the cryptographic foundation supporting AD-WAN.

Performance and protection for enterprise networks

Connectivity

Why WireGuard matters

WireGuard^®

WireGuardFast, modern, secure VPN tunnel

WireGuard is significant because it simplifies secure networking. Its streamlined design uses a compact codebase that is easier to inspect, supports efficient encrypted communication, and accommodates changes in a device’s network address. These characteristics make it an important foundation for modern connectivity, from small devices to powerful network systems.

AD-WAN combines wolfGuard’s WireGuard-based connectivity with wolfCrypt’s validated cryptographic processing. The distinction matters: the connectivity design and the cryptographic module serve different roles, and the FIPS assurance applies specifically to the validated module.

Performance

What VPP acceleration adds

Enterprise networks must move sensitive information efficiently while protecting it. VPP acceleration supports AD-WAN’s line-speed data transport, bringing performance into the same conversation as secure connectivity. For regulated industries, the objective is to support demanding business traffic alongside validated cryptographic protection.

Performance should be assessed against the customer’s intended hardware, configuration, and traffic profile during technical evaluation.

Assurance

The value and scope of FIPS 140-3 validation

wolfSSL’s wolfCrypt cryptographic module provides independently tested cryptography against a recognized U.S.–Canadian security standard. The validation record gives customers concrete evidence they can examine during security reviews and procurement.

FIPS assurance applies to the wolfCrypt module operating within its validated version, configuration, and approved mode. It does not, by itself, certify the entire AD-WAN product or establish an organization’s overall regulatory compliance.

For customers

What this means for AD-WAN customers

AD-WAN brings modern connectivity, accelerated data transport, and validated cryptography into one enterprise networking offering. For organizations handling sensitive information, that combination offers a foundation for evaluating performance and validated-encryption requirements together.

USDN credits wolfSSL’s technology and cryptographic expertise as a critical contributor to this milestone. Our exclusive arrangement supports a clear objective: giving enterprises stronger, verifiable protection for the data connecting their business.

A message from Paul Peru, CEO of USDN

I’m proud to share what we have built with AD-WAN, which USDN identifies as the first SD-WAN offering to combine wolfGuard, a WireGuard-based connectivity solution, with FIPS 140-3 validated cryptography. This milestone brings together the networking performance enterprises need and cryptographic assurance they can examine.

Thank you to the wolfSSL team and everyone at USDN whose expertise and persistence helped bring this achievement to life. We’re proud of this milestone and excited about the opportunities ahead.

Paul PeruCEO, USDN

Modern networking. Validated cryptography.
